Golf Rule
Question
When your ball is in the way of opponents line to putt and you mark it to the right or left to getit out of the opponents line, Is there a penalty if your partner reminds you to move the ball back to its original location when it is your turn to putt.
Answer
Good afternoon Peggy. a quick answer is no, it is a courtesy and I would even remind my opponent as well as my partner. Someone from the gallery could remind you or even a beverage cart girl. It is a game played by Ladies and Gentlemen. We are not trying to see if we can "catch" someone in a rules infraction. That would be petty. Now I am going to ramble a bit. I have many years dealing with rulings in Men's and Women's clubs. The typical scenario is a self proclaimed "Know it all" Rules afficinato that shoots from the hip with erroneous rules. In the PGA they teach us to always use a Rule Book, even if you know the rule by heart, there in we teach the Amateurs how to use the rule book. As a PGA Professional I purchased 50 rule books from the USGA at $1.25 ea and gave them to my Ladies Club. I had a short seminar on how to use it. The rules are fairly simple, yet they are the bones of the game of golf. Get a rule book and learn to use it, that will take care of the vigilante Rulesmysters! Thank you for your question and please check out my teaching website at www.walkersgolfventures.com
Have a fabulous day
