Sam Snead picture
Question
Pic is The GREENBRIAR SPORTS STAFF and shows:
Sam Snead - Touring Golf pro
Gardner Wright - Tennis Pro
Eddie Thompson - Asst. Host Gplf Pro
Gary Nixon - Host Golf Pro
Ferron Liptrap - Riding Master
Harold Kirchner - Director ( He was the grandfather of the lady I got the pic from, and appears to be in his 40's. She said he was born between 1895 & 1900 so that would make the pic about 50 - 60 yars old. It's a b&w print, 10" X 131/4". Is the pic collectable ?, valueable ?
Answer
Dear Dan, thanks for the question. What a great shot that must be. One thing's for sure, its valuable to you. Photographs are unique in that they are very difficult to determine value. 10 different collectors would probably give you 10 different numbers...and all of them would be low-balled because they would probably want to steal it from you. Unfortunately, there is not any type of book or standard for photos because they are all different. I think the only true value of that shot is exactly what someone offers you for it, and is willing to pay. And of course that would vary considerably. If you really wanted to sell it, try an auction online. If you want to keep it, and simply wanted to know its value, ask yourself what would be the threshold number that would push you to sell, even though you didn't want to...Therein lies its value. Good luck, and remember...
Love the game,
Skipper
ps. If you should decide to keep it, take it to a professional to preserve it.
