senior pro tour
Question
Hi
I have two questions.
1. I've noticed that on the senior tour,
the scores are often as good or almost
as good as on the regular tour. Are
the courses shorter or are they in any
way easier?
2. Have the tournaments called " majors"
always been the same or have they
changed over the years?
Answer
The senior are courses set up slighly shorter than the regular Tour---They play from the "front" of the back tees, instead of the back of the back tees---Other than that they are the same---The senior scores will not be as low as the regular Tour scores, generally--
When Bobby Jones won all four Majors in one year they were the US Open, British open, The US Amateur and the British Amateur--The two Amateur Tournaments were given back to the USGA and European Amateur to sponser and organize
Bobby Jones built Augusta National later in his life---It was an annual invitational tournament in the beginning---All the best players in the world were invited each spring---Later it became a "major"--
The British Open is controlled by the Royal and Ancient of Saint Andrews, the Masters is controlled by the Masters Tournament Committee, the PGA is controlled by the Tour Chairman and his board, the US Open is contolled by the United States Golf Association--
In a few years the fifth major will be the Tournament of Champions---That is were you have to have won a PGA tournament to be qualified---
