world rankings

What is the criteria for determining the world rankings?

Hi Royce, and thanks for your question.  This is a confusing one, and darned if I actually know the right answer!  Do you follow college football?  This ranks up there with the RPI index and all of that....

I think the World Rankings for golf are figured out by where you finish in the field in events, common opponents, points earned, money, etc...

Take Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods.  The World Rankings have them at Tiger #1 and Vijay #2.  I am sure they take Tiger's record against Vijay in common events, weight the tournaments they play in (Major championships weigh more than the Tuscon Open), rank their common opponents, etc....

Somehow, a ranking is determined.  Like I said, darned if I actually know what goes into it!  You could check out the website for the "Samsung World Rankings"...I think Samsung sponsors that, I might be wrong.

In any case, I probably have not been much help, but I think I in the ball park, criteria wise.  Sorry I don't really know, but it's been fun theorizing!
