choking
Question
During the '06 Bridgetown tournament Tiger made four bogeys in a row. My brother in law says he choked. I say no way. In fact I don't believe the word should ever come up when describing Tiger's play. Know this is simple but has gotten serious here at home. Thank You
Answer
To chock is to move into a mental state that is non-productive and results in poor play. Tiger was not really even in his regular game. So he did not chock. He never found his playing state of mind. It was easy to move into this nonproductive state. It seems strange to see him never get into his playing state. But it was no surprise to seen him play poorly as he never really started because of the personal pressure he had before play began. So, no chock, just poor play on his part.
