Shaft
Question
I am 70 yoa and in great shape. I hit my cobra driver, senior flex graphite, loft 15.5 150 yards. Can you suggest a shaft to hit longer? Thanks
Answer
Dear Peter,
I don't know of a driver or shaft that would give you more. If I were you I would do as much experimenting with different brands and shaft flexes as you can, however. Take advantage of demo days at your club or course. If any of the companies or stores have a launch monitor...get on one of those machines and learn what you can about what's going on at impact.
There are three elements to hitting the ball far: the ball, the club and you. You want to "max out" each element. You say you are in great shape. Super, but you might still be able to get stronger. Experiment with different brands of balls so you get the one that gives you the least spin off the clubface. Of course, you will need to be able to play with the same ball around the green so you might not end up playing with the hardest ball.
There are two factors in getting distance off the driver: high clubhead speed and centered impact. Make sure you are consistently hitting the ball off the sweet spot of your clubface. Missing the sweet spot by a half inch will cost you a lot of yardage.
Good luck and best wishes,
