Question
Can anyone play in the open tournaments, or do they have to go to the qualifying school?
Answer
John,
The events that are entitled "Open" events have (normally) four places in the event set aside for players to qualify for. You play in the qualifier on Monday of the event and the low four players get in the event that week. Those players are called "four spotters" on tour. Many guys who did not qualify for an exemption on tour go from tournament site to tournament site and try to qualify to play in this manner. The other way to get in these events is through a sponser's exemption. That means you need to know someone in high places!
