overdrawing with irons
Question
I drive down and through with my irons, ball flight starts out towards target then draws left. I am right handed. I tried weakening my grip, it helps a little but in need of a cure. The draw amount is as much as 15 yards with a 7 iron
Answer
Hello Tom,
Thanks for the question, sorry for the delay in response.
Firstly I would get a pro to check over your grip to confirm it is not causing the fault. As I am not sure about your ability level or level of golf knowledge I will help you as best I can.
Grip - If the left hand is too far to the right of the handle and your can see more than 2 knuckles this would contribute to the draw. Also if the right hand sits too far under the handle at address this would also cause a draw.
Swing positions - I would work on the 1/2 way back and through positions in the swing. If you are drawing the ball too much then check that at the 1/2 way back and through positions the clubhead toe (end of club) is pointing directly upwards towards the sky and the club face is not pointing towards the ground in these two positions. Start with 1/2 swings from a tee to get the idea and then slowly increase the length of the swing. If the ball stops going straight, return to the 1/2 swing again and build up slowly.
Swing path - During these 1/2 way back and through positions the shaft of the club should run parallel to the the target line (an imaginary line running from the ball to the target) and be approximately in line with your toes ( your feet should also run parallel to the target line).
I hope this is something to go on with and it helps.
Kind regards.
I dont know what clubs to get
