Question
I'm going to be introduced to the game of golf in a few days. I don't know where to start, can you help?
Answer
Welcome to the game Rudy, it's the best game on earth. My best advice to all my beginners is don't be rushed into anything. Get yourself signed up for golf lessons, whether it be in a group or private, with a PGA professional. DO NOT LET YOUR FRIENDS OR YOUR RELATIVES SHOW YOU HOW TO PLAY GOLF! No offense Rudy, but learning how to play golf is difficult enough, BAD ADVICE AND POOR INFORMATION puts you on the road to disaster. I know it might be hard to resist their suggestions, simply because you don't know, but I have seen more people quit the game out of frustration because of it. It's a game that you can play for the rest of your life, so go get some good, professional help. If you need help in locating a good Pro, let me know where you live and I can give suggestions. Secondly, let that Pro offer suggestions about equipment. It is not needed when you start, you can use theirs to begin, but you will want your own equipment. Again, get good advice there as well. And finally, after a few sessions on the "driving range and putting green", go play golf. Make sure you go play in the off peak hours, like late in the afternoon when no one else is out there. You don't want to feel rushed and hold people up. Then the tension starts and it's no fun. Ask around for information and ask a Pro at the course you go to what is the best time for a beginner to maybe play a few holes to see what it is all about. But the most important thing Rudy.........HAVE FUN!!!! It's a game and we are supposed to have fun when we play a game.
