Weight Shift Timing & Power
Question
I am a 61 year old golfer, index of 14, mostly as a result of being short and relatively inconsistent off the tee. Average drive is 200 yards. Playing a regular flex shaft and 400 CC game improvement 10 Degree head. 7 Iron goes 140-145 yards.
I think the cause of my short length is not adequately shifting my weight from the back swing to the front. I don't end the swing facing the target nor do I normally extend the follow through on the forward swing much beyond shoulder height.
Finally, my question. What is the best way to position my left leg to facilitate a complete weight shift and turn through the ball. I have tried sliding the left knee forward slightly, stiffening the left leg to almost a solid position and moving the left hip out of the way on the downswing which essentially forces a weight shift and turn. All have worked to some degree for some period, but not really sure what is the best method.
I am 5'8", normal weight distribution, and reasonably flexible for my age. I have in the past tried natural golf which to a large degree eliminated the weight shift and turn, but found that one could not get adequate distance from that method.
