Selecting the correct shaft
Question
When selecting a new driver (or other club), what shaft would be best, stiff or flexible for a man with average clubhead speed?
Answer
Hi Garrett:
Chances are a regular mens graphite shaft with about 10-12 degrees of loft would work best. What you want to achieve with a driver is Maximum launch with tumble. What that means is you want to get a club that gives you the highest launch angle and then when the ball hits the ground, you want it to tumble forward. What you don't want is a high launch angle and the ball to stop or back up. So the makeup of the club (shaft and loft) is important. It's always best before buying anything to try them out.
