selecting a golf ball
Question
This is a stupid question. I'm trying to select the best golf ball for my game and for the $$. I've always been a fan of the ProV1 and ProV1x but they are pricey. I've always assumed that I'm looking for something with a lot of spin. I'm an 8 handicap, right handed and play a draw. 8 iron 145, 3W 210. do i need a high spin ball or reduced spin ball - what other options would you suggest? i don't like hard (top flite) - i want feel but do i need the spin? I'm looking for a value and soft feel but not sure about spin rate - does more spin on the green also mean more spin off the tee and possibly less control? thanks for your help in selecting a new golf ball
Answer
Hello Mike,
Thanks for the question. A valid question. The better players do usually seek a higher spinning ball for more greenside control, however this also means the ball will also spin more off the tee. So if your driving is a bit wayward it might be better to seek a compromise between the two and get a medium spinning ball.
During the winter months I use the nxt tour because the ball will stop due to the conditions and it is not too hard. My advice would be to take 6 balls from various manufacturers in the price point you want to pay and try them on the putting green to test the feel. Then try the top two on the course.
I hope this is of some help.
Kind regards,
Marc Evans.
