Thank you for your quick responce. I have one question for you. I have heard that you have to hit the ball first and then make a divot. I have tried over and over again but I seem to hit the ball then when I do this. Do you have any suggestion of why I might be doing this. Now when I hot my wedges I make sure that the edge of the club pinches the ball. It leaves a small divot but it is right under the ball. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

-----Question-----
Hello, how are you doing? Today I was playing golf and I hit a few shots with my wedges and I can never to get them to back up but I can hit them so that they will bounce and then maybe catch a little to keep them on the green. Today I hit a few good shots but when it hit the green it would not hold. I think it might be because the grass was cut so low on the greens. You could barely putt the ball and it would take off. Another thing I noticed was that the groves on my wedges were filled with dirt. Before I cleaned them the face of the club was almost smooth. Now that I have cleaned the groves should I get more bite on the ball? Will I get less or distance on the ball now? For some reason the ball would fly low most of the times with my wedges, now that the groves are cleaned will the ball fly higher?
Thank you

thank you for your question. now... usually, when you hit the wedges correctly, they will fly high, land softly and even spin back maybe one one inch or so.... are you sure you are making right contacts? are you taking divots after you hit those shots? did you hit them thin? if you did hit them solidly with good, clean divots and it still doesn't spin, then yes... grooves are to blame. it is definitly true that grooves generate spins. the cleaner your grooves are, the more spin it will make. grooves are a big part when it comes to spinning the ball. you should definitley get more spins when your clubs are cleaner. and yes, it will fly higher since the balls are spinning more. more spin, higher trajectory. and no, you will not get less distance if your grooves are clean. in fact, you should get some more distance. on the course, just simply get in a habit of cleaning your clubs after each shot. its a good habit and you should do this to maximize the performance of your clubs. also, you can check which type of golf ball you used... did you use a range ball? or did you perhaps use a cheap golf ball that flies farther? like top-flite or pinnacle? or perhaps the greens were just so fast that you couldn't hold them.... but if you are taking any divot after impact, its your swing to blame. in case for me, i can still spin the ball fine when my clubs are dirty.... so check these things and you will find the solution. i hope i helped. let me know if you have any other questions. i will gladly answer them. good luck and have fun.

then your spinning problem is obvious. it is your impact problem.... yes indeed, you must hit the ball first and then take a divot. a golden rule to making a good spin. this is a must with all the irons in your bag. i have one great excersice that you can do to fix this. place a headcover several inches away from the ball. now try to hit the ball without hitting the headcover. you will be forced to swing down on a steep angle and you will be forced to hit the ball first and then take a nice divot. so... try to hit the ball without touching the headcover. this might create some shanks but make sure you swing from the inside as you are doing this. if you get in habit of doing this drill, you will naturally hit the ball solid with a good divot. so try this and you will see difference in the amount of spin that you create on the ball.
Answer
good luck. but wait!!!!!!!! did u practice the drill? i hope you are not going to do this for the first time on the course.... you should practice this movement for at least one full week before taking it out on the course... well... good luck though and have fun while you are at it.
