Ball positioning
Question
I took a few lessons from a teaching professional that I have a question about. THis particular pro has me placing the ball to the front of my stance for every club (except driver which goes even further forward). He said this will keep everything simple always striking at the same point no matter what club. It seems to be working for me but I was wondering if you have ever heard of this method before or if there are other people out there teaching this or using this. I know most people move the ball back in their stance for shorter irons. Thank you for your advice. Scott
Answer
Hello Scott,
Thanks for the question.
There are two schools of thought on this.
1. The ball position changes with each club. The shorter irons are played more towards the center of your stance, making it easier to create a downwards strike and the longer clubs more towards the inside left heel. This promotes a more sweeping action.
2. The ball position remains pretty much constant and the width of stance adjusts to alter the strike on the ball.
The secret is to find out what works for you and then stick to it.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Marc Evans.
