golf ball
Question
hi. i am a 5 handicapper and had once shot 2 under par before. i am 16 and i have a descent swing speed. i am looking for a golf ball that will launch low from the driver. i found out that i tend to hit a little high when i hit the ball high. when its windy, my ball doesn't go a long way. i have three new titlest prov1 but i don't plan on spending further money on expensive golf ball. so i am thinking about titlest nxt. which golf ball flies lower and farther? the nxt or the nxt tour? or is there any other descent golf ball at the same price range? thank you
Answer
Tommy,
Congrats on the 2 under par. Feels great, doesn't it? Ok, if your a 5 handicapper then you obvouisly have some skill and play quite a bit. So lets think about the ball for a minute. Take away all of the hype about 2 piece, 3 piece, cover material and all the extra stuff they tell you, and you'll basically end up comparing spin rates of different balls. How and what they're made of doesn't really matter as long as your comfortable with the ball. Spin happens...with every shot you hit. The more a ball spins, the better it holds the greens, but it will also hook or slice more and will fly a bit higher and shorter off of a driver than a ball with less spin. (Don't forget that hitting into a wind will exxagerate spin, which will cause the ball to fly higher and shorter, as well as hook or slice more.) The ProV1 is a great ball, but it is a bit pricey and might not be the ball for you. Of the other two balls you mention, the NXT Tour will probably spin more, so it may not show you much difference. The NXT will probably fly a bit lower, which can increase distance and roll out further. You can pretty much bet that any ball labeled "extra distance" or "extra long" will have a lower spin rate and should help with your problem some. Also you might try teeing it a bit lower when hitting into a wind. Hope this helps.
