Question
i am just picking up this sport. I have played baseball all of my life, and wonder if this is affecting my swing. I am very inconsistent with any club, and it is hard to me to decide which club to use because of this. What is an effective way to measure your abilities with each club, and how can I perform more consistently.
Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hello Keith:
Welcome to the game. It's a great game that you can play forever. In response to your question, get together with a respected, PGA Teaching Pro in your area and start by checking the basics. I encourage any baseball players, because there are so many similarities to golf. No it is not affecting your swing, although most people believe it does. You simply need to learn some of the basic golf fundamentals and begin to practice. Whatever you do Keith, get some help from a qualified professional. If you don't know where to go, ask around. Call a few of the clubs you recognize and ask who they would recommend to get some help. The kiss of death is go listen to "anyone" who thinks they can help you or for that fact, anyone. Everyone has great intentions to help, but they have no clue either. With the baseball talent already there, getting the basic fundamentals related to golf will make sense. You need a pair of eyes on you for a while, but it won't take you too long to get more consistent and see what each club will do. You need to be able to hit the ball solid most of the time before any consistency starts happening. So no big deal, do some homework, ask around, and if you're still stuck, write me back, and I can look into my PGA directory and give you some names and numbers to get you started. If you're in or are going to be in the Phoenix, Arizona area, come see me.
