Putting Woes

Question
Me: 40, 5'10" 150lbs in good health, played the game for about 15 yrs. I have always had 'problems' with putting... it costs me so many shots every game.

I'm interested to know if you have any ideas for putting practice... i practice regularly but never seem to gain anything from the practice, of course i've tried every kind of putter out there with similar results.

Thanks, Lee

Answer
hello lee and thank you very much for your question.  i am sorry if it took so long to answer back.  thank you for your personal info as it may help me answer the question a little better.  let me begin by telling you that you came to the right place as i have gone through a LONG putting woe.  now, i am fine and am putting better.  let me tell you that a lot has to do with mental game.  because you have been putting so badly for a long time, you are thinking, "lets not three putt this"  or "lets not miss this little three-footer"  sometimes putts just don't seem to go in the hole.  brad faxon, one of the best putters in this game, said that you can putt at your best when you putt like you don't care.  meaning, you are exerting too much pressure to yourself.  i used to freak out when i had a three footer for a par.  i would line it up, take 5 practice stroeks and still miss the damn putt.  the frustration is unbelievable.  so i tried brad faxon's tip and sure enought it seemed to help me putt a LITTLE better.  but once i saw a little progress, i was gaining little confidence and soon, i putted WITHOUT fear.  getting rid of your fear may be hard but here are some of the tips to hurry the recovering process.  when you putt a three-footer, tell yourself that IF YOU ARE GOING TO MISS IT, MISS IT LIKE A MAN. put a confident stroke on the ball.  when you have that 35 footer, try the same mental apporach that you are not going to care about the outcome of the result.  PUTT LIKE YOU DON"T CARE.
now lets talk about practicing putting.
DON'T go on the putting green and just putt the ball without meaning.  bring 20 balls with you.  set it up next to the hole and practice making 100 3-footers in a row.  if you miss one, start over and thrive to make a 100 in a row.  this should help your short-range putts.  again, as your practice, try putting like you don't care.  if you don't care, would you be afraid to miss the putt?  no.  try the mental approach to fix your putting and let me know if it helps.
