How do you lengthen golf clubs?
Question
Hey, i am 6'7 and I just bought a set of Taylormade RAC OS Irons, and I am pretty sure that i need them lengthened, i bend over way too far with them now and i cant get any power on them. My father-in-law can regrip them, but how hard, and is there any walk thru guide to lengthening clubs? the guy at the shop wants to charge me about $8 per club. is this something that I could do, or is it best left to a pro???
Answer
hello and thank you for the question. let me tell you now that you should never, ever, try to lenghten the club by yourself unless you are experienced. it is okay for your father-in-law to regrip the clubs but don't let him change the lenght of the shafts. and yes, you definitely need to lengthen with your height. before you pick a longer shaft, it is VITAL to know how long the shaft should be. there is a rule of thumb when dealing with this situation. you should get customized. in fact, in order to make sure that you get the right type of club to fit you individually, you may need even need to change the angle of the club. so my answer would be to leave it to the pro but make sure he knows what he is doing. he should be measuring the height from your hands to the bottom of the feet and etc, etc, etc. it is indeed best to leave it to the pro. $8 sounds a little pricey but you have to understand that changing the shaft is an important process and must be doen by the pro. i hope i was able to help. do change the shaft as quickly as possible. i would also recommend changing the lenght of the shaft of your putter, driver and woods. good luck and if you have any other questions, i would be happy to answer them.
