Distance gap between groups of clubs

Question
Hi Dathaeus,
I hit about 175 yards with 4 Hybrid (graphite) and 150 with 5 Iron (steel), and I have 4 wedges, so there are already 14 clubs in my bag.
There are at least a few holes at the local course that I have to hit 160 to 165-yard second shots, and I ended up hit it too short with 5I, and I can't really hit 3/4 swing with the hybrids.

What do you suggest I do with these 160-yard shots?

Thank you in advance.

Answer
Hello and thank you for asking.  This is a good question, and it is a matter of equipment and skill.  Here is a brief list of possiblities you can try:

1 - Go to a clubmaker and weaken your hybrid or strengthen your 5 or both slightly to close the gap

2 - Hit a fade with the hybrid after choking up on the handle about half an inch, that will take off about 5-10 yards depending on conditions

3 - Strengthen your grip on the 5 iron which will give you an additional 5 yards of distance

4 - 4 wedges???  Learn to play with 3, the PW, SW, LW, or PW, GW, SW, somwhere between 48-53-58 degrees.

5 - This also depends on your skill level.  Learn to do some punch shots to take hardage off
