Offset Driver
Question
Hi I am fairly new to the game and have a Taylor made 580XD offset. I am struggling with lining up my club and the proper club head placement as opposed to lining up with a non offset.
Answer
Hi Jeremy:
Sounds typical but here is the easiest way to do that. Always look at the leading edge of the clubface when lining up. The leading edge must be parallel to the target line. So often with offset clubs, the faces look closed and it presents weird angles. But always look at the leading edge of the clubface (the leading edge is the lowest point of the clubface, the part of the club that would rip turf out of the ground), it should be at a 90 degree angle to the target line. In reference to clubhead placement, the golf ball with a driver should be located inside the left heel (assuming you are right handed). With all clubs, make sure to feel very centered at address. What I mean by that is when you are set up to the ball, the butt end of the club should be pointing at your belly button. If true, the clubhead would be opposite your center and the ball would be just in front of center. As for the driver, the head of the driver is so big, it would appear the ball is moved further forward towards your left instep, but do not alter the way you set up to hit the shot. Keep your set up consistent and keep your clubhead placement consistent.
