To Change Drivers or Not
Question
I am a "young" senior golfer. I have been hitting a Mizuno 10 degree MP001 driver with a stiff shaft for several years. However, more often than not, my drives deteriorate from straight or slight draw to big fade or clear slice OB as the round progresses. I love the driver but think I need a shaft change to something lighter and perhaps more flexible. I'm about a 22 handicap but could drop that substantially IF I could get off the tee consistently. Do you have a shaft you recommend or how can I get fitted for one without buying several through trial and error.
Answer
hello and thank you for your question. yes indeed, i do rececommend a new driver instead of a new shaft. getting a new, shaft will cost 50 to 100 dollars and there will likely be a 20 dollar labor fee. why spend so much money to get a different shaft when you can get a bigger, lighter and a better driver? the mizuno drivers ARE a little heavier and smaller than the modern drivers. so i really do recommend spending a couple more bucks and getting a new driver. but if you choose to stick with your old driver and get a new shaft, i recommend aloila. perhaps you have heard of it? i can tell you with confidence that they are the best shafts and you should give them a try. i highly do not recommend trial and error process. instead, do a club fitting if you have the access to it. work with someone who can actually see your swing. and have all the equipment to see which shaft would fit you the best. if you are considering getting a new driver, let me know and i can recommend you a lenghty list of drivers you can give a try. good luck.
