no distance on any of my clubs
Question
I'm getting no distance out of my clubs. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what. The guys that I play with are hitting pitching wedges and sand wedges into green that I am hitting an eight or nine iron into. How do I fix this and to see if I am shifting my weight properly?
Answer
hello charles and i am terribly sorry if it took so long to answer back. lets get started.
1. resist trying to hit as far as your buddies as you will be trying to swing harder and faster and this will further ruin your swing.
2. work on fundamentals and you will SURPRISED to see how much difference a good basic can make. i am 99% sure that your set-up is not proper. mainly check your ball postion. get an experienced eye to check your set-up. and if that person tells you to move the ball further up in your stacne, then DO SO regardless of how weird it may feel.
3. swing path. work on shallowing out your swing path as this can provide a tension free swing. and when you have a tension free swing, you will hit the ball pure and further. to do this, imagine you are playing baseball and you are trying to hit to ther first base. or you can imagine that you are trying to hit your right thigh with your hands before making contact.
4. one of my favorite drills to help my students acheive a shallow swing path is to have them copy fred couples' golf swing. check his swing out on youtube.com and observe his backswing and downswing. you will notice that his backswing is steep and his downswing is a lot shallower. this is the secret to a good contact and a good contact is what you want to hit farther than your buddies. do copy and feel like you are fred couples. swing like him and practice that steep and shallow swing on the range. you should spend more time out on the range rather than on the golf course for the time being and rememeber, swing slowly and resist your temptations.
i hope i helped... if you have further quetions, please just let me know.
Cant hit the driver!
