Signing in

Question
During a ladies golf comp I failed to sign the competition book and was subsequently disqualified - is this correct?  I thought I coudl be penalised but as signing the competition book is not 'a rule of golf' not actaully disqualified?

Dear Jan, thanks for the question and I'm sorry to hear about the issue.  Unfortunately, this falls entirely under a local rule exceptions area governed by the local committee and not the USGA.  Local groups, leagues and committees are always within their discretion to govern however they have earlier agreed.  I would however ask to see such written ruling somewhere to guard against a snap-decision on the part of the committee.  Good luck, thanks again and remember...
