help my swing
Question
my downswing is a little odd. at impact my elbow is stuck to my body and my body is way infront of my hands. i think my downsswing plane is too steep. what is wrong?
Answer
Hello Chloe:
I don't. If your body is way in front of your hands at impact and your elbow is stuck to your side, you will top many shots and hit them way to the right. If the position you describe is true, the swing plane is very shallow, not steep. I would make some swings and not worry so much about impact and what you look like. Remember, the golf swing should be one, uninterupted motion from start to finish. Try hitting some balls with a 7 iron. Keep your stance pretty narrow for this drill. Make no more than a three quarter swing (left arm parallel to ground) in the backswing. Swing the club all the way to the other side the same distance through (right arm parallel to ground). Keep your balance with not much lower body movement. Just get used to swinging the club backwards and forwards without stopping or worrying about impact. Get a feel for a complete swinging motion. Let your arms and hands swing a little freer and try to sense the weight of the clubhead during the motion. In no time, you'll be making better contact and by paying more attention to the swinging of the club, the club will have a chance to be better timed with your body.
