Golf Swing/Driver

Question
Hi Stanley

Problems with my Driver.
* 100-105 golfer
* playing for about 2 yrs.
* I feel my short game is ok.
* But my long game needs help especially my driver.
* I currently have Nike Sasquash 460, Right Hand, 9.5 degree, Aldila NV Stiff Flex, 65 grams.  ( only had it for a week).
* I am thinking of trading it in since I got measured and my swing speed is around 70-80 mph. So the guy suggest about 11.5 degree loft and reg flex driver.
* Driving Issues:
*    Hook
*    Ball flight is very low
This what confuses me.  I went to the driving range and after a few balls I started to get it up in the air and pretty straight around 200  yrds.  But when I played twice this week. It did not go as well.  I usually hit it short.  Low ball flight.  Usually the roll/bounce gives me yardage.  I was doing some reading and I read that a flatter swing causes hooks. I think maybe with my irons (which I do pretty well) I have more of a vertical swing while with my driver I feel, maybe I have more of a flatter swing and could this be my issue.  Any ideas how to help.
* Note I tee the ball about the mid of the ball is at the top my driver.
* I tee it up inside my left foot.
I know this maybe too much info and you might get tired of reading but I am trying to describe my case so you could understand.  Please help.

Thanks in Advance.
Nitin

Answer
thank you so much for your general info.  info about yourself is never too much as it helps me diagnosis your swing.
1. its true that shallow swing path produces hook.  BUT this is not your problem.  keep your swing path and keep it shallow.  there is nothing wrong with having a shallow swing path becuase the worst it does to you is that it produces a SLIGHT DRAW.  not a hook.  a steep swing path is a CURSE in golf and you must do everything in your power to avoid a steep swing path.

2.  good thing that you have a descent driver with the right loft. so we know that it is not your driver that is the problem. your driver will definitely produce a higher ball flight.

3.  if you are hitting it well out on the range but just can't seem to hit it on the course... then it ususally means you need to work on your mental game.  all of a sudden, you feel the need to hit good shots.  and this pressures you and it makes you nervous.  don't let this bother and just try to have some fun out there.

4.  good to hear that you are teeing the ball inside your left foot.  but that is the old, unorthodox way.  some people call that advice a cliche.  forget about inside of your left foot.  and wear a polo shirt wiht a logo on it on the left chest of your body.  your ball MUST be right below that that logo.  if you don't have a logo.. then try to get the ball below your left brest.  if you do this, then you will feel like you are hitting an iron.  its OK.  do me a fovor and hit some ball this way.  try to get the ball a little closer to your stance.  i am confident that this will "magically" solve your problem as it helped my other, personal students.  so remember, put the ball back in your stance just a little bit and too much to the point where it looks like you are hitting your irons..

good luck and if you have further problems... then just let me know.
