balance

Question
hey stanley,

went and played today, shot a 100.  not bad for me considering i havent played in 2 weeks.  the driver, even though it has the small crack, seemed to work much better than my old one.  it went as far, but straighter.  i also didnt hit one ball on the center of the face today, which brings up my question. since the last month or so, well before my trip, so this isnt a one time deal, i have been hitting the ball all over the place on the clubface.  all good golfers have a repeatable swing, and i feel i dont because of ball position, and my balance at setup and through the swing. i hit one off of the heel, and i think, oh, better move the ball out farther.  next ball, same.  oh, better move my weight more towards the heels of my feet.  toe shot.  well, not that far on my heels, then a heel shot.  i really need some kind of drill, or measurment to give me a  good idea of how far away from me the ball should be at setup.  same thing with my balance, not left or right side, but heels and toes of my feet.  every time i hit one the center of the face, i hit great shots.  this problem is really killing me as far as yardages, because you dont know how far it will go, so you just pick your club and hope you hit it good.  i feel this is one thing holding me back from breaking 90, and that would be great to do. once i get a good, consistent swing worked out, just practice, practice, practice.

thanks,
garrett

Answer
glad to hear that you like the driver...  is the crack getting any worse?  i hope not...  as long as it doesn't go shorter than your old driver, then it should be fine...
you still have several days to make up your mind whether you want to return it or not.
lets talk about swing.
the distance between you and the ball should be about a thumb and fist part.  thats how far the distance should be between the club and your body.  try it.  place your hand with you thumb extended and see if it fits perfectly between.  adjust your set-up to this thumb and a fist rule.  regarding your balance, balance can be achieve when you hit quality shots.  but to generally improve your balance, we can work on drills to strenghten your leg muscles.  balance is crucial to building a good swing so i suggest doing this every night before going to bed...
hold your arms behind your back.  then stand on your toes.  slowly go down and up without losing balance.  do it again and again for 10 times. then gradually move on to 20 times if you can.  this will burn and it should hurt but it can strenghten your leg muscles.
it sounds to me like you have a slight trouble with your set-up as a whole.  so i recommend you see something from youtube that i think is very informative and accurate.
