Driver or Hybrid?
Question
I have a Cobra Baffler 20?(stiff shaft) that I hit consistently about 240 off the tee with a draw. I have a driver (R7)that I hit inconsistently (240 - 300) not nearly as accurate either. Should I find a longer hybrid to use as a driver and how much more distance for each degree should I get?
Also I hit my irons very long with avg to high trajectory (LW - 100yds, PW 140, 6 - 185, 5 - 200), should I be able to hit close to 300 off the tee with something consistently? I've never been able to hit the big head drivers well and I hit my Baffler better that my 3 wood that is a much longer club.
I'm confused any advice
Answer
Hi David,
You have no problems with distance. You need control and consistency.
The longer the club, the harder it is to hit the sweet spot and the more likely the club face will be open or closed.
You won't have a significantly greater swing speed with a longer club. I play with a set of irons that are all the same length. My club ranges are the same as they are with a standard set. The difference in length between a standard 3 iron and PW is not significant enough to produce a significant difference in club head speed. Distance is thus directly related to loft. Read my newsletter about it here:

For you, I'd try one of the following:
1. Cut down your driver so that it's the same length as your hybrid. You'll find that you'll hit it way better.
2. Get a hybrid with a 13 degree or so loft. Have it cut down so it's the same length as your existing hybrid if you need.
The smaller head clubs are easier to rotate in the swing; the opposite to the big headed drivers.
Hope this helps.
