golf rules question
Question
Hi there,
If you are playing matchplay and you mark your ball on the green a putterhead to the right/left of it's position, so your opponent doesn't have to putt over your marker..... then you forget to put the marker back and put from there, is there a penalty?
Thanks,
Ben
Answer
Hi there. thank you for asking. Yes that is a loss of hole in match play and if you are in stroke play, it is a two stroke penalty:
"...(A putt) played from a wrong place (and) incurred a penalty of two strokes; the ball was in play ?Rule 20-7c."
