Shallow vs. Deep
Question
Assuming the exact same swing speed at impact using the same loft driver, how does the depth of driver (deep vs. shallow) face affect the golf ball flight trajectory?
Thanks
Answer
The center of gravity of the club head has a lot to do with the flight trajectory. In most cases, shallow- faced clubs tend to have a slightly lower center of gravity and will generally cause a higher launch angle. That's one of the reasons fairway woods are always very shallow faced. It would be harder to get the ball in the air off of the ground if fairway woods were as big as drivers.
Shallow faced drivers can be pretty effective, especially if you like to hit them off the ground on a long par 5.
Hope this helps.
