ping zing 2
Question
I own three copper ping zing 2 wedges. I bought a ping zing 2 nine iron. It
does not match the wedges. It is silver colored and is squarish, odd shaped,
with vertical black and white stripes on the grip. The wedges are smoother and
have a more normal looking ping grip. are there two sets of ping zing 2 clubs.
thanks, gene
Answer
Hey Gene,
There were several different versions of that club, if I remember correctly. I know for sure that they made that head in stainless steel, copper, and also a nickle version. The copper and nickle zing 2's were slightly smaller club heads than the stainless set. The fact that it's squared off and weird shaped sounds like it might be one of the original "zing" clubs and not the "zing 2," but I don't know without seeing it. I owned a set of "zings" briefly in 1991 and it seems like they came with that grip on them. There are several different grip styles you can choose from when ordering ping clubs. None of this really matters if you like the club. One cool thing that Ping offers, though, is the ability to order clubs to match exactly the clubs in a set. For example, if you lost your 5 iron you could give PING the serial number off of one of your other clubs and they could reproduce an exact replica of the 5 iron that matched your set when it left the factory. The serial number is etched onto the hosel.
Hope this helps,
John
