Chipping on green
Question
Skip, I saw John Daly chip on a green one time. Are you allowed to chip on the green according to PGA rules? I have a bet with an associate about this. Thanks
Answer
Dear Ed, thanks for the question. You are indeed allowed to play any club anywhere on the course as long as they conform with the rules. I've seen full swings believe it or not, on a green (which happened to be the wrong green.) Most amateurs are recommended to take free relief so as to not dig up the green in that case. But chipping on a green is perfectly legal and sometimes necessary due to the shape of the green. Good luck, thanks again and remember...
