clubhead speed vs. ball speed

Question
I recently took my first trip to a launch monitor and am a bit confused by the results.  My approximate numbers 110 -115 club head speed, 155 -160 ball speed, 12 - 14 deg launch angle, 2400-3000 rpm, 255 - 260 carry.  My question has to do with the relationship between the club head speed and ball speed, my ratio of 1.4 - 1.44 seems low.  I was pretty consistent across the board with several different drivers (some were lower, but the better ones feel into this range) but just can't seem to increase this ratio.  I know that a 5 - 7 % increase would add 10 to 15 yards, is this reasonable?  Where should I be looking, shaft, loft, etc.  I am around a 5 or 6 handicap.

Answer
Hi John:
Interesting point made yesterday on the golf channel during the telecast about this.  I forget the exact professional they were referring to, however, the clubhead speed was 119 (driver), ball speed was about 170.  They then mentioned his rpm's were about 2400, like yours.  They said if he could lower the rpm's to about 1900, he would increase his drives by about 15-25 yards.  What that has to do with is the amount of spin on the ball.  If the ball doesn't spin too much, then it can carry more given you have enough launch angle.  Appears you do.  I believe it has to do with the angle of attack to the ball.   If your angle of attack at impact is slightly too steep, you will impart backspin, not good.  You need to be catching that ball just barely on the upswing, not on the downswing.  I don't think you need to concern yourself with ball speed off the club.  I think you need to be more concerned with lowering the spin rate on the ball.  Your clubhead speed is that of a Tour player.   Check golf balls and perhaps go ask them about spin rates (rpm's) and what they would consider the easiest way to lower that.
