downhill lies
Question
Right now my bane for downhill lies is the middle irons. I can hit 5 and 6 irons all day on a flat lie but have trouble with downhill lies. I can somewhat hit my 7 and 9 woods, 7 iron and 34 deg hybrid off a downhill lie.
I see all these instructional videos that tell one to follow the slope, keep the weight on the left leg, etc. How does one maintain the head behind the ball and still keep the weight on the front leg?

To answer your question, you don't. That would make you hit behind the ball. You must tilt your shoulders to the angle of the slope, which in turn will angle your spine towards the target. So if your weight is on the downhill leg and your spine is tilted towards the target, your head would be in front of the ball, which is exactly what you want because you need to catch the ball first and the grass second as you continue to swing down the slope. The club will tend to bottom out where your nose points, so if you have your head behind the ball, you will not succeed on a downhill slope.
