Proper placement of ball on tee

Question
John, I have recently ordered a device that will allow me to mark a ball so that it rolls "true." My question is - how do I tee the ball for my driver? Do I tee it with the line aligned with the intended direction of flight, or perpendicular to that line? The reason I ask is that I have recently seen super slow motion images of PGA professionals driving golf balls, and there appears to be a line that is perpendicular to their intended aim. I was curious to know if that was an artifact used to capture the ball image leaving the driver face, or was it indeed how they tee the ball. Additionally, do you have advice about the proper height to tee the ball? I would assume that it would be teed so that at impact the face contacts the ball at or just slightly above "dead center" on the "sweet spot"
Thanks for taking the time, and i apologize if you have already addressed this - I searched the question/answer bank and did not see it
Warm Regards
Chris

Answer
Hello Chris:  I don't believe the touring pros use the line they may put on their balls for anything other than alignment.  And I cannot think it makes much difference on the position of that line on a tee shot.  Just thinking about it, I would say it would be better to have the line perpendicular to the target line.  And this is only based on what I notice occurs while driving next to a car whose hubcap is not completely on.  It seems to wobble and I think that would reduce the speed at which the ball travels.  Once again, it's just a guess.

And you're right about how the ball should be teed.  The deep-faced drivers are designed to deliver maximum performance when hit just above dead center.  And you'd want to position the ball so that the club makes contact just as it begins its upward path.

Thanks for your question Chris.

John
