Weight Transfer
Question
When I start my down swing all my weight is on my left leg I have tried everything I know to correct this, but it gets worse. Hard to believe I played to a 5 hc last year and can not break 90 at this point. Any help is greatly needed.
Answer
Hi Richard:
What you're saying is that all your weight stays on your left leg in the backswing. Because if all of your weight is on your left leg when you start the downswing, then it never moved from the start. If that is true, here is a simple check point for you to try. For a drill, hold the club in just your right hand. Set up to the ball like you are going to hit it. Now, make a backswing allowing your chest to turn with the motion so that at the top of the backswing, the center of your chest is directly over your right knee. If you do this correctly, your weight cannot be on the left leg totally. The key here is to allow your chest to turn and to allow your head to swivel. Keep working on this. Then put your grip on the club, stand in front of a mirror and make some backswings, making sure that at the top of the swing, your chest is over your right knee. It's OK to move in the backswing. Key word here is to ALLOW your chest to turn with the motion.
