Allocating Strokes in Best Ball
Question
Here's the scenario: Matt is a 10 and his partner Paul is an 22. They are playing a best ball match against Bryan, a 12, and Ken, also a 12. Who gets strokes?
Answer
Bryan: Although handicapping and stroke control is outside of my expertise, here is what I would do if I were playing in that match. I am Matt. If we were playing a gross best ball, I would give Bryan and Ken one shot a side (difference between 12 and 10 divided by 2)and give Paul 6 shots per side (12 divided by 2). If you were going to be playing a net best ball, then everyone gets their full strokes. I have also seen where each player gets 75% of their strokes rounded up. I am not sure if there is one stipulated way to do that, however, being fair and using the strokes of the handicap system, you could allocate any way you all saw fair. But again, teaching is my expertise, not handicapping. Sorry.
