Which iron should I buy
Question
Hey,
I am about to purchase some new clubs and would like your input. I think I have decided to get some Cobra FP's because they seem to be a real god value. Should I get the 2007 or 2008 model? I am a 7 handicap. I like to shape my shots and usually play a slight fade.
Thanks for your help. If you think I should look at some other irons, please let me know.
Thanks, Doug
Answer
Hi Doug,
I'm not familiar with the difference between the 2007 and 2008 models. Here is some advice on buying clubs in general.
1. Make sure you play with them first or at least hit balls at a range.
2. What's really important is that they are the correct lie angle for your swing. Get a pro to help you with this.
3. If they look good to your eye and they feel good, then you're more likely to play well with them.
4. Don't be fixated on how far you hit them. The major determiner of distance is the loft of the club. Some manufacturers make their clubs with lower lofts, and thus you would hit them farther. The important thing is that lofts gradually increase from the short irons to the long irons. Check online to see what the lofts of the clubs should be. You can have the lofts checked for accuracy at a pro shop.
If you want to consider something a little different, check out the clubs made by 1-iron Golf. The irons are all the same length (7-iron length) and the same weight. They all feel exactly the same when you swing them. They have standard lofts. I play with them and have the same range values as I do with a standard. They are based on the loft being the major determinant of distance.
