STOP SHANKING DRIVES
Question
Hi I hope you can help me stop slicing and shanking my driver. I have a taylormade Burner driver and I just cant hit it. It either goes 250 yrds then takes a huge slice to the right. or goes 50 yrds. I cant fix my slice. Also when hitting my irons I tend to scoop or lift the ball up, not making any divots. Could you help me to properly strike the ball and make good divots.
THANKS
Answer
Right first things first, your driver slices due to an out to in swing path (club travels across the ball) and an open clubface (club face looks to the right), so in order to stop the slice you need to change these factors. First make sure you swing the club more from in to out and second check your grip isn't too weak, look for 3 knuckles on the left hand, you may be seeing only one or two. This will bring the clubface back square or even slightly closed which will produce a draw.
Next your irons, to strike them crisp your weight needs to be on your left side at impact so try to feel that you start your downswing with a shift of weight to the left leg, then try to strike the ground slightly in front of where the ball will be this will give you the ball first divot second scenario that good strikers have.Good luck
