short tee shots
Question
I am 81 years old and I am in pretty good shape, I exercise and use the treadmill just about every day. But due to arthritis in my shoulders and lower back problems I can't make much of a shoulder/back turn. Therefore I don't generate much swing speed. My tee shots only go about 80 yards, either with a driver or 3wood. I am using a "bang metal SF series TI 12%" driver and a "bang SF #3 metal wood"
Can you suggest a
club that would help me get more distance? Maybe have more 'bounce' off the clubface? I saw an ad for a club made of zolex, which said that it was harder than titanium. Are you familiar with this? I will appreciate any help you can give me. Milt
Answer
Milt,
First of all I did some research on the club made of Zolex. It's lighter than titanium according to the web site. I think experimenting with clubs and very flexible shafts is the way to go. Go to your local pro shop and see if they have any "demos" to try. From what you're telling me a super flexible shaft will get you more distance.
"Try before you buy", however, and good luck.
The other thing to try is to use more arms and hands in your swing to generate more clubhead speed. I advise this because of your arthritis.
Thanks for the question,
