ping eye 2
Question
ijust aquired a set of ping eye 2 red dot clubs.my normal tendency is to hit the ball left. would ping blue dots be a better choice and how to know the difference for all colors
Answer
Hi Scott,
The only difference is the lie of the club, which is the angle between the sole of the club and the shaft. Red dot is one degree flat, Black dot is standard. Blue dot is one degree upright.
The lie of the club refers to how flat the bottom of the club is at impact. If the toe of the club is too much up in the air at impact, you would tend to hit the ball to the left. This is because the heel of the club will catch the grass/ground first and cause the club face to twist, closing the club face.
Now, it might be that you hit the ball left because of alignment errors or because you swing the club from outside to inside the target line. The red dots might be the correct lie for you.
You can check them yourself by hit some balls from a black mat. Some of the rubber will rub off onto the sole of your club. If the rubber is on the middle of the sole, then the lie is correct for your swing. If the rubber is toward the heel, then the lie is too upright. If the rubber is toward the toe, then the lie is too flat.
Check each of the clubs in the same way. To be sure, see a qualified professional. If you find that the lie of the clubs is not right for your swing, you can get the lies adjusted.
Hope this helps.
