Hybrid loft?

QUESTION: I was just wondering if hybrids were supposed to go really low and rolling. Because when I hit my hybrids most of them they are generally low and roll for some time. I try to keep my clubface square to the ball and hit the club like an iron. Is that correct?

ANSWER: Jeff,

No full shot in golf is supposed to go low and rolling. It sounds as if your hitting the middle of the ball with the bottom of the clubface creating the bellied shot or line drive trajectory. Try moving the ball back in your stance a bit. This may allow the club to make contact with the ball on a more level motion with better contact.

QUESTION: Oh, sorry to mention something...

Not like super low to the ground, just about medium height, not high. And this is a 4 iron hybrid.. I put it about at about middle of stance. Is that correct?

Would I be correct in assuming that you'd like to hit this 4 iron hybrid higher for more control? If this is the case, I would recommend moving the ball forward in your stance. This will give you more effective loft at impact thus hitting the ball at a higher trajectory. See if this gives you the trajectory I think you're asking for.

I follow the teachings of two of the great ball strikers of all time, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus. Ball position for all full shots should be opposite your front inside heel or slightly back from that position. The only thing that changes when you play a different club, is the change in the back foot position. The general rule to follow is that the shorter the club, the more narrow the stance, the longer the club the wider the stance. Have one ball position for all full shots and change the width of your stance relative to the club length. Keep it simple for more consistency.
