Hitting a Draw
Question
I'm a left hand golfer. I cannot hit a draw or a hook I have tried different methods suggested in books with no results.
Answer
Hi Len,
Not hitting a draw or hook means the clubface is not being released earlier enough through the impact area. For this to occur, try the following:
For a left hand swinger:
1. You need an inside-to-outside swing path. Most golfers swing outside-to-inside, cutting across the ball. Check your swing path by swinging next to an empty box. See if you can make slight contact with the box after the impact area.
2. Strengthen your grip by turning your right hand more counter-clockwise on the shaft. You should be able to see at least two of your right hand knuckles. Ensure the grip is more in the fingers of the hands than in the palms.
3. You might be "sliding your hips" towards the target on the downswing which will inhibit the hands releasing. Firm up the right leg and knee and focus on the hips turning, not sliding.
Hope this helps.
