allowable marks to use on green
Question
hey Skip, forgive me if the answer to this question is already somewhere on this forum. My friends and I had a question regarding what you can mark your ball with on the green. I found Decision 20-1/16 on an internet search which states that you can use most anything, but coins or similar objects are recommended. I used a divot tool to mark my ball on the green, and I did it by sticking it in the ground behind the ball. One of my partners felt that even if it is legal to use a divot tool, or golf tee that you could not stick them in the ground, and could only lay them on the green by the ball. What is your take on this rule?
Thanks,
Bob
Answer
Dear Bob, thanks for the question. There is no problem in using the tools or tees as you have described. With that said, the less damage to a green the better. Most players are careful and therefore continue to use tees etc in this manner. Good luck, thanks again for asking and remember...
