Question
hi im ryan im 11 and i just started golfing. But i really neeed clubs and have little money because we just moved do you know a place that affordable golf clubs?
Answer
Hi and thank you for asking. When you are starting out, you do not need all 13 clubs. The most important clubs for you to practice in the first several months is a low iron, like an 8 iron, and then a short hybrid, like a 25 degree or 5 iron hybrid club. Also in order to practice your short game, you need a putter and a 56 degree sand wedge.
Purchasing a whole set for whatever cost is not a good idea when you dont have money, because your first set should be matched for your body, playing style, and swing. You cannot just buy some sports authority $200 clubs and expect to play well with that, because they are not fit for you and you will make bad swings to compensate.
First go to a local Edwin Watts or a golf shop that has club fitting, spend a few bucks and ask them what length and type of shaft you should use. Then go buy a 5 iron hybrid, 8 iron (or 7 iron will do as well), sand wedge and putter. You can try many different putters at the store and see what style you like... first impressions are everything. Buy some of those on ebay for cheap, used it fine. Then take them to the store and have them fit for you. This way you have 4 solid clubs you can play golf with, and then when you get your ability better, you can look into a full set. So while you practice, start saving!
