club lengths
Question
I've been playing golf since jr high i dont seen to have crazy power, and the best part of my game is defiantly my short game and i take bride in that. My irons 7 thru 9 are solid my driver on avg is about 180 yds but i tend to slice on drives.
so i was wondering if you could help me on my long irons, i think it might be ball position because i have a hard time hitting an iron more like a driver. if u can help let me know thank you
Answer
Hi Jon:
First off Jon, get rid of your long irons and get yourself some hybrids. Sounds like you don't have much club speed, so long irons would be next to impossible to hit solid and get airborne. If you have little speed, a club with not much loft will not get airborne. Hybrids have a smaller head and have loft, they will help you hit it better. Ball position would be just forward of center in your stance and you would hit it like you would a 7 iron. You should not try to hit your irons like your driver.......driver is up on a tee. So, here is my advice. Get rid of every iron in your bag longer than a 6 iron. Get some hybrids, say a 19 degree, a 25 degree and a 32 degree. Also, make sure you have the right shafts in your clubs Jon so you can get the most "kick" out of it to help you pop it out there a bit more. Seek out a good club repair man or make sure you talk to someone who is knowledgeable about clubfitting. They can really help you.
