wrist hinging in backswing
Question
When taking the backswing, am I supposed to feel that I'm using my shoulders the entire way back? Because I'm worried about the wrists hinging... will it still wrist hinge enough if I use my shoulders only?
Answer
Jeff,
Sorry for the delay. I went through Hurricane Ike and haven't had access to a computer with power.
Yes you should feel like the shoulders do the majority of the work during the backswing. The key is this with your wrists. If the grip is moderate the wrists will hinge (naturally, sort of a fulcrum affect) where they are supposed to at the top of the swing. Conversely, if your hands are gripping the club too tightly, you will have to manipulate the wrist hinge, which will not be very consistent. Grip lighly and enjoy a more consistent golf swing.
Thanks for the question.
