Out to In
Question
Off tee with a driver and occasionally from the fairway I make an out to in swing. what can I be aware of to avoid this,
Answer
Hi Len,
If you swing out to in from the fairway, then you likely have an out to in swing most of the time. With a driver, you could swing out to in to a larger extent because of a ball position more forward in your stance.
How do you know if your swing path is out to in? It's important that you know where you are aimed. Many golfers have misconceptions about their ball flight because they are not aligned properly. Most right handed swingers align too far right of their targets. Check my website out for an explanation of alignment:

To see how much you're swinging out to in, swing a wood alongside an empty box. The box is aligned parallel to your target line with the toe of the club about a half inch from the box. When you swing, if you hit the box before impact, then you're swinging out to in.
It might be that you're taking the club away a little outside the line. The box drill will show you that. Your club position when your hands are hip high on the backswing should be parallel to the target line, pointing away from the target with the toe of the club pointing skywards. Hope this helps.
