Last hole at Papago
Question
I seem to remember a men's club tourney at Papago where all three players were tied at even par going into 18. One person (some really old guy) birdied, I parred the hole, but this young guy sunk his second shot for a nice eagle 2 to win the tourney. Do you remember anything about this?
Thanks,
Glenn Lane
Answer
Hey Glenn:
I think I do remember that guy. WOW, that is amazing you bring that up. Hope all is great with you. It's funny, because of all the stuff going on at Papago now, there have been many guys talk to me about some of the old days and shots and memories from "our" time. That was a special moment, that is for sure. I actually had 3 eagles on the 18th hole in my Papago career! For some reason, that shot into 18 fit my eye, whether it was a 5 wood, a 7 wood, or a 5 iron. I wonder what it will look like now? I am going to go over next week and take a tour of the course with Al, the new GM. He was my boss about 15 years ago, so if they let him run the facility and do what he was hired to do, all should be fine. I just hope they can get the revenue that they project, and keep it affordable for the locals who love the place. Thanks for the message Glenn, that made my day!
