Bend clubs or cut length
Question
I have a set of Titleist AP1. They are 2*Down. I was told that I was standing to upright. So I bent over a little and yes I am hitting the ball better. Now the toe is up in the air. I hit them on a lie board and the mark is closer to the heel. The question is should I bend them another 2* down or take 1/2inch off? Will taking length off do the same as bending? Distance is not a problem for me, so I am not worried about loosing any. Thanks for your help.
Answer
Hi Jason,
Shortening your irons by 1/2 inch will change the lie angle by 1 to 1.5 degrees. What I would try instead is to just choke up on the club 1/2 to 1 inch and see how the lie angle turns out on the lie board. The swing weight of the club will not be changed significantly. Even 2 inches of length won't affect distance much. The main determiner of distance is loft angle.
Hope this helps.
