Game going the opposite way - problem fixed
Question
QUESTION: I had been emailing how, after a tip from pops about standing more erect, I started hitting the woods and hybrids nicely but had been struggling with the short irons (and also about my problem with shanking full shots after a certain amount of time).
Up until yesterday, I got to the point where I got pretty consistent down to the 9 iron (I play hybrids all the way down to a 38 degree club - I just constructed a Snake Eyes Quick Strike Approach Hybrid and I have a 9 iron that is 1/2" longer than my others). Also have a Macgregor VFoil 50 deg gap wedge and I get 120 yards out of it (it also works nicely for flop shots).
I discovered yesterday that the 52, 58 and 64 deg wedges work way better if I stand a little farther from the ball and flex my knees a little more. I waa actually able to swing away and hit them nice and straight (with the high trajectory expected). Before, I was doing all the anti-shank drills and the problem would go away but would come back. Not only that, something just didn't quite feel right.
ANSWER: Lou:
Congrats. Never fixed, but under control. Amazing how the simple things work...like backing up away from the ball.

QUESTION: Seems like golf is a constant game of tweaking this and that.
Answer
Lou:
You're right again. I was told when I was a kid that golf is a game of misses, not perfect shots. And because of human nature, we are always looking for something better, a different angle, a different view, or a different tip. In golf, it's maddening, because no matter how well you play, you could always play better. I remember when I shot 62 at the par 71 Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa, Arizona. I was 18 years old and in college. Best round of my life..still is. Do you know I could have saved 3 more strokes without really trying? I remember missing 2 putts inside 4 feet and leaving a bunker shot in the bunker? It always can be better. That is the lure to guys like you and me. Always tinkering to find a slot for improvement, maybe a club, maybe a tip, maybe a training aid. In any event, keep having fun Lou.
